Breaking Barriers to Education for Children of Widows with Disabilities in Zimbabwe
The Hope Ithembelani Tariro (HIT) Organisation has reached a significant milestone in its mission to support the most marginalized members of society by extending a lifeline to the children of widows with disabilities in the Midlands Province.
These families often face double the burden of poverty and social exclusion, making access to education a nearly impossible hurdle.
To address this, the organization recently implemented a targeted intervention aimed at ensuring that these children can start their school year with the dignity and resources they deserve.
By donating high-quality school uniforms and books to five children, HIT has helped eliminate the visible markers of poverty that can lead to stigma and exclusion in the classroom.
However, the organization’s support went beyond just the basics. Recognizing that financial barriers often prevent talented students from completing their primary education, HIT took the critical step of paying the Grade 7 examination fees for two children.
By donating high-quality school uniforms and books to five children, HIT has helped eliminate the visible markers of poverty that can lead to stigma and exclusion in the classroom.
This intervention ensures that these students can sit for their national exams and transition to secondary school, breaking the cycle of poverty through academic achievement. Without this support, these children might have been forced to drop out, missing a vital opportunity to improve their future prospects.

Evelyn Musipa, the Projects Coordinator, notes that providing these children with uniforms and paying their fees is about more than just money; it is about giving them a fair chance to compete and succeed.
